Guidelines for purchasing flights
Flights should be purchased to arrive at the only airport in Rarotonga (airport code: RAR). Direct flights are available from Los Angeles (airport code: LAX) or often via the Auckland International Airport (AKL).
All interns should plan on arriving by May 21st by 10:30 am at the latest. Global Treks staff will meet you at the airport. Departing flights should depart on May 28th unless interns plan on extending their stay. Transport to the airport is provided on the morning of the 28th. Interns arriving to the island before the 21st can pre-arrange a meeting time to join the team upon the start of the expedition. All interns extending their stay on Rarotonga beyond the dates of the expedition will need to plan on departing the research base in the morning of the 28th.
**While not always the case, flight prices may be less if arrival/departure days are altered by a few days. Global Treks encourages all team members to look into alternative travel dates to potentially save quite a bit of money. Interns may want to meet up prior to or after the expedition to share accommodations. Global Treks will help connect anyone that’s interested!
For travel insurance, Global Treks and Adventures is not associated with anyone in particular or sell insurance directly. But, we have used insuremytrip.com in the past and had a good experience. They have several options you can review. There are also a million other options available online, so we recommend interns take their time and find a plan that fits individual preferences. Please note, while recommended, it is not required to purchase travel insurance.
