Program Overview

Mexico City offers students a unique opportunity to explore the history, culture, and daily life of one of the world's most influential cities. Through guided experiences, cultural immersion, and meaningful interactions with local communities, students will gain a deeper understanding of Mexico's rich heritage while developing the skills and perspectives needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

Throughout the program, students will visit historically significant sites, engage in hands-on cultural experiences, explore local traditions, and participate in community-focused learning opportunities. By stepping beyond the classroom, students will strengthen their intercultural communication skills, broaden their global awareness, and gain firsthand insight into the people, places, and stories that shape contemporary Mexico.

Designed to balance education, cultural engagement, and personal growth, this 7 day, 6 night experience encourages students to become thoughtful travelers, curious learners, and responsible global citizens.

From the ancient city of Teotihuacán to the colorful neighborhoods of Coyoacán and the waterways of Xochimilco, each experience is designed to foster curiosity, cultural understanding, and personal growth.

Mexico's proximity to Montana makes it an ideal destination for students seeking a meaningful international experience. With a manageable travel day, familiar time zones, and well-established tourism infrastructure, Mexico City offers many of the benefits of international travel while remaining accessible to students and families who may be embarking on their first global learning experience.

This program has been intentionally designed to balance cultural immersion, educational value, and thoughtful risk management. Through carefully selected accommodations, private transportation, experienced program leadership, and trusted local partners, students are able to explore with confidence while remaining focused on learning, discovery, and connection.

Itinerary Summary

Arrival Day: Fly from Bozeman to Mexico City (Orientation, settle into the hotel and watch the sunset)

Upon arrival in Mexico City, students will be met by Global Treks staff and transferred via private transportation to the group's accommodations. After settling in, students will participate in a program orientation and begin exploring the city through an introductory neighborhood walk and welcome dinner.

Day 2: Exploring the Heart of Mexico City
Students will spend the day exploring Mexico City's Historic Center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the cultural heart of the nation. Through visits to significant landmarks, public spaces, and historic districts, students will examine the Indigenous, colonial, and contemporary influences that have shaped Mexico's history and identity. Along the way, students will gain insight into daily life in one of the world's largest cities while beginning to develop a deeper understanding of Mexico's rich cultural heritage.

Day 3: Teotihuacán and Ancient Civilizations

Today, students will journey to Teotihuacán, one of the most significant archaeological sites in the Americas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As they explore the ancient city's impressive pyramids, ceremonial spaces, and urban design, students will learn about the civilizations that once flourished there and examine the lasting influence of Indigenous cultures throughout Mexico. Through guided exploration and discussion, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the complexity, innovation, and cultural legacy of one of the ancient world's greatest cities.

Day 4: Community Engagement and Cultural Exchange

Students will participate in community-based learning experiences designed to foster meaningful cultural exchange and global understanding. Through interactions with local organizations, educators, artists, and community members, students will gain insight into the opportunities, challenges, and perspectives that shape daily life in Mexico City. This day emphasizes learning through relationships, encouraging students to engage with curiosity, empathy, and respect while exploring the shared experiences that connect communities across cultures.

Day 5: Art, Culture, and Community in Coyoacán

Students will explore the vibrant neighborhood of Coyoacán, known for its rich artistic heritage, colorful public spaces, and strong sense of community. Through guided exploration, cultural experiences, and opportunities to observe daily life, students will examine how art, history, and tradition continue to shape contemporary Mexican culture. This day encourages curiosity, reflection, and a deeper appreciation for the role of place, creativity, and community in shaping cultural identity.

Day 6: Xochimilco, Food, and Cultural Traditions

Students will explore the historic waterways of Xochimilco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that offers a unique window into the agricultural and cultural traditions of the region. Through guided experiences, students will learn about the importance of the chinampa system, local food production, and the enduring relationship between people and place. The day will also include a hands-on cooking experience, providing students with an opportunity to explore Mexican culture through food while learning about the traditions, ingredients, and community connections that shape daily life.

Day 7 Reflection and Departure Day

On the final day of the program, students will have an opportunity to reflect on their experiences, learning, and personal growth throughout the week. Through guided discussion and reflection activities, students will consider the perspectives they have gained, the connections they have made, and the insights they will carry forward. Following the conclusion of program activities, students will transfer to the airport for their return journey home.

Safety and Support

Student safety and well-being are central to every Global Treks program. Our educational travel experiences are thoughtfully designed to provide meaningful cultural immersion while maintaining clear structures, expectations, and support systems throughout the journey.

Students will travel with experienced Global Treks leaders who provide guidance, supervision, and support throughout the program. All transportation is arranged through trusted providers, and activities are carefully selected to align with the educational goals of the program while supporting a positive and well-organized student experience.

Accommodations are selected based on location, comfort, cleanliness, and suitability for student groups. Throughout the program, students will participate in guided activities, travel as a cohesive group, and receive ongoing support from program leaders and local partners.

Global Treks maintains comprehensive emergency response procedures and communication plans to support students and families throughout the program. Prior to departure, students and families will receive detailed information regarding expectations, logistics, communication protocols, and preparation for travel.

Our goal is to create an environment in which students feel supported, confident, and empowered to engage fully in the learning experience while exploring the world with curiosity, responsibility, and respect.


Accommodations

Students will stay in comfortable, centrally located accommodations that provide convenient access to the program's educational and cultural activities throughout Mexico City. Accommodations are selected based on factors including location, cleanliness, comfort, group suitability, and proximity to planned program experiences.

Students will share rooms with fellow participants and will have access to modern amenities, including Wi-Fi and daily breakfast. Program leaders will stay on-site and be available throughout the duration of the program to provide support and assistance as needed.

The selected accommodations are intended to provide students with a comfortable home base from which to explore, learn, and engage with the rich cultural experiences offered throughout the program.


Student Program Cost: $3,625

The program fee includes:

  • Roundtrip airfare from Bozeman, Montana to Mexico City, Mexico

  • Airport transfers and in-country transportation

  • Accommodations for the duration of the program

  • Daily meals in-country

  • Program-related activities and excursions

  • Entrance fees to scheduled sites and attractions

  • Experienced Global Treks program leadership

  • Pre-departure orientation and preparation materials

  • 24/7 support from program leaders throughout the experience

  • Family Support: bi-monthly optional community sessions for questions and opportunities to address concerns

Not Included:

  • Passport application or renewal fees

  • Personal spending money and souvenirs

  • Travel insurance (if required or recommended)

  • Items of a personal nature

Parent Companion Option:

Families interested in traveling to Mexico City during the program may have the opportunity to participate in a Parent Companion Package. Parents choosing this option will stay at the same accommodations as the student group and may join students for breakfast each morning, while maintaining separate daily schedules and activities.

This option is designed to provide families with additional flexibility while preserving the independence, educational integrity, and immersive nature of the student experience. Parent participants are responsible for their own daily activities and do not participate in student programming, transportation, or educational excursions. A menu of a la carte activities as well as travel support will be provided for ease in planning.
